Julian Aprile

Julian Aprile began his martial arts career at age 8 when he joined the Key Peninsula Isshinryu Karate dojo in Vaughn, Washington under Sensei Dale Heidal.  He studied intensely in Isshinryu for 12 years and received his first degree black belt in the year 2000 at Master George Shin‘s dojo in Auburn, WA.

Triple Black Belt, School Owner, Personal Trainer

A short time after his promotion and earning his BA from University of Washington, Julian began studying Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu in Chinatown Seattle under Master Mak Hin Fai.  He studied kung fu for 5 years and earned his black belt in Choy Lay Fut.  Concurrently, Julian began his professional martial arts career as an assistant instructor at Gig Harbor Karate Academy in January of 2003.

In 2004, he also earned his American Council on Exercise Personal Training Certification (started Aprile Personal Training) and began studying Philippine Combat Arnis under Guro Dave Bird.

Julian then purchased Gig Harbor Karate Academy in October 2006 and was promoted to black belt in Arnis in January of 2008.  Julian currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Isshinryu karate and is the Head Instructor at Gig Harbor Karate Academy.

San Do Kuen

San Do Kuen was founded in 2008 and Julian has been actively teaching he SDK program since January of 2009.  San Do Kuen “Three Way Fist,” is the expression of his lifetime of martial arts practice and reflects his passion for martial arts.  San Do Kuen is a not fixed system (where every student learns the same thing) it is a framework through which students of different ages, body types and interests can explore and develop their martial arts ability and human potential.

As the founder Julian has given himself the rank of 5th Dan in San Do Kuen.

At Home

Julian lives in Gig Harbor, WA with his wife Lauren (who is also a black belt) and his two sons Aidan & Luca.
