Grandmaster Mak Hin Fai

Sifu Mak is one of the most gifted martial arts athletes I have ever encountered.  He has the ultimate combination of grace, speed and explosive strength that is so rare in any martial artist.  Sifu taught me the beauty and power of Choy Lay Fut through hand and weapons forms.  Sifu also gave me many opportunities to demonstrate my skills in public venues – this was great for my development.

A Real Kung Fu Master

Sifu Mak is truly a kung fu master.  As a product of decades of refinement and constant training, his forms were flawless .  Sifu Mak also had a more open minded perspective than I had encountered before.  He trained his students according to their own attributes rather than teaching everyone the same program.  Sifu encouraged me to jump farther, go faster, and to constantly push myself.

During my 5+ years with Grandmaster Mak I was also exposed to amazing art of Chinese Lion Dance.  His knickname is “King of Lion Dance” for his skill in this arena.  I only got to see him dance once, and he was incredible.  He out-performed the teenage athletes at age 50!

The Best Forms on Earth?

To this day, I have yet to see a person who demonstrates kung fu forms better than Grandmaster Mak.  Whenever I practice my CLF, I hear his voice in my head and imagine how far away I am from reaching his level.
