Shihan Robert Edwards

Shihan Robert Edwards is a karate man unlike any other you might meet. His style of movement and technical interpretation of karate goes so far beyond what other stylists do – it is hard to describe. His system is so simple, but has incredible depth and effectiveness compared to other traditional styles. Shihan’s mind is a fighter’s mind, but refined and developed in the context of Isshinryu Karate. His karate is based on a mental game plan (a strategy, a viewpoint) that is so finite and acute that it frees his body up to be a versatile fighting tool.

A Champion

Shihan is a legend in the history of sport karate tournaments. Some people believe that he has won more victories in sport karate sparring than any other competitor in history. With an unbelievable record of 175 Grand-Championships in his career, his accomplishments are truly amazing.

A Sensei

I never knew Shihan Edwards when he was a competitor, I have only know him as a sensei. It is unusual for a great fighter to also be a good teacher, but Shihan is both. I recently had the privilege of being present for his recent promotion to 8th Dan in Isshinryu Karate. This certification came directly from Okinawa and is registered by the Okinawan government.
