Philosophy

Most people do not realize that there is so much more to martial arts than punching and kicking or MMA sport fighting.  Martial arts is not just a physical activity, it is a world view, a lifestyle, and a beautiful art form.

The training process involves constant self exploration and self development.  Martial arts teaches self-defense, social values, political strategy and humility.

The widespread misunderstanding and misinterpretation of martial arts lessons has created confusion about the role of martial arts in society.  Students often become distracted by esoteric notions of style, or their egos drive them to strive for rank or competitive victory rather than working to develop skills.

Martial arts systems should not be evaluated simply on the basis of their technique, but also on the depth and breadth of their philosophy.  Anyone can learn to throw a punch or train to win a fight, but that is not martial arts.  Martial arts requires an understanding of the context and consequences of fighting and a desire for peaceful conflict resolution whenever possible.
